Kabbaladurga and Pyramid Valley

Our initial plan of going to narasimha parvatha and kundadri betta had to be shelved due to naxalite combing operations near kigga . We then decided to go to sakleshpur for a trek to moorukannu gudda, however unavailability of tickets meant the plan had to be shelved. Finally we settled on kabbaladurga a small hillock 80kms from bangalore
We headed out to kabbaladurga on sat after picking up kiran from corporation. A stop for breakfast and we were cruising along the kanakapura road with short breaks in between. Reaching kanakapura we headed further to sathnur which was another 16kms from kanakapura. One needs to take right at sathnur and proceed another 6kms to the village kabbalu where the hillock is situated

The route
Bangalore->kanakapura->Sathnur->Kabbalu

Parking the bike near the poulty form we began the climb The sun was beating down mercilessly when we began to climb

First Look at Kabbaladurga

With no winds blowing the climb was tiring in the humid temperature. There are steps carved in the rock which one can use to climb, however at some places one has to be on all fours to climb as the climb becomes a little steep in a few places.

With short breaks and taking photos we continued the climb

Views around kabbaladuurga

There is a temple on top of the hill which is visited by the villagers. The sad part is the amount of quarrying being done which seems to be having an adverse effect on the surroundings.

We met a couple of families who were coming down after visiting the temple. A short conversation and we were on our way. The humidity was making the climb difficult and after huffing n puffing for an hour and half we finally reached the summit.

Temple atop kabbaladurga

A short rest in the temple to re-energize ourselves and we were heading back to the base. Luckily the wind was blowing which made the descent easier. Another hour of climbing down n we were at the base of the hillock

When coming back to bangalore we took a short deviation to visit the pyramid valley which is one of the new seven wonders of bangalore

Pyramid @ Pyramid Valley

The pyramid valley is one of the largest meditational pyramids which is being built. Those interested in meditation and spirituality can pay a visit to the pyramid and learn about the various forms of meditation. A short discussion with one of the meditation experts we came to know that the 4 sides of the pyramid converges at 52 degree angle which as per him contains the positive energy which is released during meditation. Meditating for half an hour a day would do ur body and mind a world of good is what the person had told us

A few shots of the pyramid

Meditating for about 15 min, we left the place after having our lunch in the cafeteria thus concluding another well spent day

Makalidurga

After a amazing ride to somwarpet and madikeri last weekend,I was thinking of a trek this weekend. Makkalidurga a small hill 50 kms from bangalore and 10 kms from doddaballapur was choosen for this weekend’s trek. Kiran agreed to join, and we headed out to doddaballapur on sun.

With roads being empty on sun morning we reached doddaballapur in an hour. Asking for directions we proceeded towards makkalidurga.

Makkalidurga

Makkalidurga is a small railway station, which has a temple nearby. The peak which stands at 1350 mts can be scaled in an hour. There is an old ruined fort at the top of the hill and a shiva temple which locals visit. The railway track running next to the temple, makes it an ideal spot for photography and also for bird watching

Railway Lines

We started the trek after reaching the base of the temple. The trail starts from behind the temple and goes all the way to the top. There are marking on the stones, indicating the path. By following the markers one can reach the top.  The climb is gradual and it becomes steep as we go higher. We can also get to see a huge lake and other mountains.

Rivers and vast mountains

As the climb gets steeper, we had to climb on the boulders to get to the top. After an hour of climbing, we reached the top of the hill from where we could see the peak. Taking rest for sometime, we headed to the fort.  There is godown, which was once used, and a small shiva temple on top. After spending some time on the top, we headed back.

Another hour of climbing down and we were back to the base of the temple.

Channarayanadurga

It had been almost 3 months since I had been on a trek, with the last being sharavathi valley in dec. This prompted me to go for an impromptu trek to chennarayanadurga a small hillock located near tumkur.

I proposed this to my friend kiran, who also joined for the trek.  After picking him up we headed towards dabbaspet on sat. As there was less traffic early in the morning, we were able to make good progress. With the weather being chilly, we took a small break at a hotel for cuppa near the flyover, before proceeding further. Misery awaited us a little ahead as my bike tire got punctured. After losing about half an hour, in getting the puncture sorted out, we headed to kamat upachar for breakfast, before heading to koratagere. With the sun already beating down on us, we proceeded further, taking a few breaks in between.

Lake enroute to channaryanadurga

On reaching koratagere, upon asking for directions, we were told to go to thumbadi and take a left at the arch and proceed forward. We soon reached the base of channarayanadurga.

We started the climb towards the fort located at the top of the hill. The climb is pretty steep from the beginning and it took me time to get adjusted. With the sun beating down, the going was pretty slow. Soon we were the entrance of the fort. We took a break inside the fort.

The fort is a multi level fort built by channapa gowda a hoysala chieftain. The first level of the fort contains a temple and a small pond.

View from the fort entrance

Climbing further we reached the second level of the fort. The fort is damaged, however we could see the graineries and also the dilapidated wall of the fort. From top we could see a range of hills

Distant Hills and Fort wall

Damaged walls of the fort

Having spent some time at the fort, we began our descent. Descent was quick and we soon reached the first level of the fort. Taking a short break there we proceeded our descent to the base.

With, the trek done, there was still enough time left, hence we went to devarayanadurga which was closest. With good scenary keeping us occupied, we reached devarayanadurga at noon.

Scenic view near devarayandurga

After a darshan at the temple, kiran went to have lunch, which was served by the temple. After spending some time there e headed back to Bangalore
